Inner speech (self-talk)
The mind's ongoing internal dialogue where it acts as both speaker and listener to regulate emotions and rehearse things one can't say aloud.
Self-regulation
A process of managing one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, often facilitated by inner dialogue when others don't understand.
Imagined conversations
Full conversations or scenarios created in the mind to simulate social interactions and work through feelings.
Cognitive rehearsal
Practicing words or responses in advance by mentally rehearsing phrases.
Safe space (in the mind)
A private mental space where one can express thoughts without external judgment to process emotions.
Emotional processing
The mental activity of understanding and organizing emotions, aided by inner dialogue when there is a lack of understanding from others.
Rehearsed words
Words or phrases prepared in one's mind to be spoken later, but may never be spoken.
