Policy
A plan that guides actions; in this course, a set of basic classroom rules to maintain a peaceful, productive learning environment.
Classroom Policies
Five foundational rules: be ready to learn, act and speak appropriately, no food or drink, no personal electronics, and respect the classroom environment (water allowed).
Consequence
A result that follows from not following a policy; may include warning, conference, parent contact, or referral to administration.
Warning
An initial caution given for misbehavior.
Conference with student
A formal discussion between the student and teacher about behavior and expectations.
Formal parent contact
Notifying a parent/guardian about a student's behavior or performance.
Referral to Administration
Sending a student’s disciplinary issue to school administrators for further action.
Procedure
The set of steps or method used to perform a task efficiently.
Class Procedures
Routine steps used for common classroom tasks and activities; may change as needed.
Entering Class
Process: bring necessary materials, check dress code, enter quietly, go to seat, and begin with bellringer.
Bellringer activity
A short task completed at the start of class to focus students' attention.
Dress Code
Rules about clothing (e.g., shirt tucked in, belt worn, ID visible) for classroom appearance.
ID
Identification badge required for attendance and school safety.
Water exception
Water is the only beverage allowed in class.
No food or drink
Food and drinks are not allowed during class time.
No personal electronics
Personal electronic devices are not allowed during class unless specified.
During Instruction
Guidelines for active listening and orderly participation: listen, no side conversations, raise hand to speak, and ask questions after instruction.
Quiet work / whispering
Work time should be quiet or at a whisper level to respect others.
Absent
Missed class; check with the teacher for make-up work; assignments may be made up within five days.
Make-up work
Assignments given to compensate for excused absences; due within a specified timeframe.
Google Classroom
Online platform where assignments and make-up work are posted.
Dismissal
Process of leaving class: tidy the workspace, wait for permission, and exit quietly.
Tardy
Late arrival to class; requires a signed hall pass; 10 minutes or more late may count as unexcused absence.
Hall pass
Authorized permission to leave the classroom or arrive late.
Proper dress code
Shirt tucked, belt on, and ID around neck.
