Mole
A unit used to measure the amount of a substance, representing 6.02 × 10²³ particles.
Molecular weight (MW)
The sum of the atomic masses of the constituent atoms in a molecule.
Avogadro’s Number (NA)
The number of atoms in one mole of a substance, approximately 6.02 × 10²³.
Stoichiometry
The calculation of reactants and products in chemical reactions based on balanced equations.
Molarity
A measure of concentration expressed as moles of solute per liter of solution (mol/L).
Chemical reaction
A process that involves the transformation of one or more substances into different substances.
Periodic Table
A tabular arrangement of elements organized by their atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties.
Balancing Equation
The process of ensuring that the number of atoms for each element is the same on both sides of a chemical equation.
Concentration
The amount of a substance in a given volume of solution, often expressed in mol/L.
Atomic mass unit (amu)
A unit of mass used to express atomic and molecular weights, defined as one twelfth of the mass of a carbon-12 atom.
Reactants
Substances that undergo a chemical reaction and are transformed into products.
Products
The substances that are formed as a result of a chemical reaction.
Chemical Equation
A symbolic representation of a chemical reaction, showing the reactants and products.
Stoichiometry
The calculation of reactants and products in chemical reactions, often expressed in terms of moles.
Chemical Formula
A way of expressing information about the proportions of atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound.
Ionic Compound
A compound formed when metals combine with nonmetals, characterized by electrostatic attraction between ions.
Balancing Equations
The process of ensuring that the number of atoms for each element is the same on both sides of a chemical equation.
Hydrates
Compounds that contain water molecules within their structure, often represented with a prefix indicating the number of water molecules.
Periodic Table
A tabular arrangement of chemical elements, organized by increasing atomic number and grouped by similar properties.
Molecular Weight (MW)
The sum of the atomic weights of all the atoms in a molecule, often used to calculate the mass of a substance.
