The Mormons wished to show polygamy - did not mean men were exploited or had no rights, and some Mormon women were enthusiastic workers for the franchise

Give women the right to vote, by 1890, suffrage campaigners had managed to get 8 states to hold a vote on the issue

What did 20 states permit? (S)

Only widows with school-age children to vote

What did Susan B. Anthony and 150 other women do? (F)

To test the 14th and 15th amendments, they tried to vote in 1971/72. They registered, voted and were arrested and tried for electoral malpractice

What did the judge refuse them? (F)

The right to speak, told the jury to find them guilty of violating voting rules and fined them

What did the supreme court rule? (F)

Women were not allowed national voting rights, and reformers were defeated

What did campaigns in 33 states end up as? (F)

Tried to get votes on the issue, but only Colorado and Idaho voted in favour before 1912

Prevented women from casting their votes
