31. Properties

items used to 'decorate' the set and make it more realistic

32. Set dressing

the design plotted out for the actors by a scenic designer to optimize dramatic effect throughout the play while also allowing free movement of the players.

33. Set Design

the design of the costumes being worn by the actors that helps the audience identify time/location/mood/etc. simply by observing their outfits

34. Costume Design

device for balancing the weight of scenery, allowing it to be easily RAISED/LOWERED through a system of pulleys & weights (not at JCHS because of computerized system)

35. Counterweight System

a room where actors/technicians might relax or take breaks before a show begins or after it concludes

36. Green Room

electric tool used for attaching screws/drilling holes

37. Drill/Driver

attachment for drills used for attaching screws or drill holes depending on the bit

38. Bit

strong (usually black) tape that does NOT leave a residue

39. Gaffer's tape

a piece of scenery used to conceal parts of the stage from the audience

40. Masking

the part of a stair where your feet are placed when utilizing

41. Stair tread

the vertical portion between each stair tread

42. Stair rise

bearing - a structure in a set that is built to hold weight (such as actors/furniture/set dressing)

43. Load

the person who oversees all aspects of the technical portion of a production, this individual will also work with ALL designers (lighting, sound, costume, props, hair/make up) to ensure that the director's vision is being appropriately pursued

thin, plastic color medium used to change the color of any lighting instrument

a long range light capable of moving/following a performer

a durable wheel used to attach to platforms (making a stage wagon) that allows the set to become portable for easy ON/OFF movement on the stage

58. caster

large piece of finely woven cloth which seems opaque when front lit & transparent when lit from behind

practical visionary of a theatre company who must secure rights, establish budgets, raise $, find a space, bring the artistic leadership together & help facilitate many different needs of the show

74. producer

part of the artistic leadership team who accepts FULL responsibility of the production AFTER it opens to the public; 'CALLS' the show & accepts responsibility for maintaining artistic integrity of the production throughout the run.

the first rehearsal when all actors/leadership team/techies sit down and read through the script ENTIRELY & share their feedback about the script

rehearsals when actors work with the director to establish movement & physicality for the play
