Gene Mapping
The position of genes/loci associated with traits along chromosomes, using recombination frequencies to locate genes relative to one another.
Recombination Frequency
The proportion of offspring that exhibit recombinant phenotypes, used to calculate map units.
Map Units (mu)
A unit measurement in genetics indicating the distance between genes based on recombination frequency.
Test Cross
A cross between an individual with an unknown genotype and a homozygous recessive individual to determine the unknown genotype.
Independently Assorting
The concept that different genes can segregate independently during gamete formation.
Traits
Characteristics or features of an organism, such as color, morphology, or shape.
Gametes
Reproductive cells that carry half the genetic information of an organism, used during reproduction.
F1 Generation
The first filial generation of offspring resulting from a cross of parent organisms.
