how do i visit uva?

at our website admission.virginia.edu when you click VISIT

i went to sign up for a tour and there are no times, what do i do?

there are no spots available; you can look for a different time or take a self guided tour, deans will always be available in peabody hall.

do i count as a virginia resident?

transfer to office of virginia status (blind trasfer to 23391)

does uva track demonstrated interest?

no

can i see a student’s dorm room?

not in person, but go to HRL website (housing.virginia.edu)

when will EA/RD reslts come out?

EA decisions by february 15th, RD by april 1st, ED by december 15th, applicants will get an email that the decision is released in your portal

when are transfer apps due?

fall trasnfer is March 1st, spring transfer is October 1st

i lost link to application portal, help me log in?

get their full name and DOB to resent email with portal login info. go to timeline tab - find important login for myUVA portal - click resend - change sender to [e-mail], confirm email and press send

how do i reset myUVA portal password?

click forgot password when signing into portal, but if there are issues we can reset it for you if you call us back

GPA/SAT/ACT minimum?

currently test optional, so there is no minimum. advice is if you think the score reflects your ability, submit it, and if it doesn’t don’t. for future classes test optional is still being decided on and that decision will be released in february.

can i talk to (specific person) please?

we can’t send out personal information

can i have a non teacher submit a recommendation letter?

we require one letter from an academic teacher, but you can include additional recommendation from anyone else. have the recommender email us directlyand include the student’s name, dob and pdf of the recommendation letter ([e-mail])

when does common app open?

august 1, 2025

will these classes i’m taking transfer to UVA?

we can’t offer specific transcript evaluations, but if you go to transfer credit analyzer you can look at what classes were taken for credit in the past. if it doesn’t appear, that just means we haven’t had anyone transfer credit from that specific class and institution before, but it still could be taken. credit is ultimately determined by university registrar.

what AP/IB scores get credit at UVA?

webpage online under university registrar that has info on what scores are accepted

what classes should i take to get into UVA (SEND TO DOD)

look for top-level classes across five core subjects: english, math, science, social studies, language. if more questions, send to dod

i want to transfer to UVA from another school (SEND TO DOD)

you can look at transfer webpage online to get started, more specific questions transfer to DOD. also look at intern transfer guide on teams if specific question like that

how to access slate

use link in teams and log in with your UVA credentials

how to find out who is DOD

if we don’t know, go in slate - events - scheduler - go to today’s date (there is a morning DOD and afternoon DOD)

what do i do when a tour comes back?

ring the doorbell once on the front desk

how to look for student’s application materials?

slate - full name and DOB - materials tab (cannot confirm any recommendation letters)

how to put someone on hold?

COMMUNICATE - press hold and communicate before and after when you put on hold

how to transfer calls?

place person on hold - press buttons under transfer - click consultative button so it shows blind transfer (you aren’t blind transferring) - dial DOD ext number - speak with them - press transfer - hang up

what if DOD is not available?

press cancel and call with DOD will end - phone returns to original caller - take down guests full name and number - email pink slip to DOD with information

who is elligible for transfer admission?

1. 24 credit hours of college after high school (not counting work in high school)

2. attend college for full calendar year

3. NOT elligible if completed bachelors degree, unless going to engineering and you have a degree in something other than physics/eng

4. good academic standing at their current institution

5. CLAS accepts for both fall and spring / other schools only in the fall

6. batten/mcintire only third year applicants

7. nursing enter as second years regardless of credits

8. other schools accept both 2nd and 3rd year applicants

what courses do i need to take?

each school has different requirements - google UVA transfer course requirements and look up your program. for college, ed school, and architecture, 2nd years are supposed to have completed half or more of requirements

do i need to make a new common app?

yes - need to make a transfer profile on common app

should i submit SAT scores as a transfer student?

submitting ACT/SAT is optional, int’l students should submit english proficiency, portfolios are required for students in architecture major, but are otherwise optional. letters of rec and resumes are also optional.

what are transfer admission chances in spring vs. fall?

only CLAS has spring transfers, and it is more competetive because they only admit a small cohort per spring semester. if you apply in the spring and don’t get in, you have option to rollover application for the fall

for transfer app, do you look at high school grades or just college?

all students must have high school transcripts. high school and college are evaluated equally for 2nd year applicants, 3rd years are evaluated mostly on collegework.

average GPA for transfer students?

average is 3.5, but admissions process is holistic so that is only one of many considerations on application (extracurriculars, essays, level of coursework, etc.)

are some majors more competitive than others?

1. biology, physics, economics, computer science, political and social thought are more competitive and have specific course requirements

2. few seats for rising third years in media studies

3. biomed engineering has specific course prereqs, contact department for more info

4. chem. engineering may take 3 years to complete even for third year student

how do i apply for transfer to mcintire or batten?

1. 3rd year students may be directly admitted in schools if they designated interest on application

2. 2nd year transfers should apply to CLAS as pre comm or pre batten and then apply at the end of second year

do i need to have all comm course reqs completed to apply to mcintire?

most competitive applicants completed all required courses before enrolling. some stdents are admitted and take final course or two over summer prior to classes starting

can i transfer to school of data science?

no, new school so no transfer pathway yet, but you can get a minor while enrolled in another school if interested
