Chromosome

A DNA molecule that contains genetic information in genes.

Gene

DNA which is passed down from generation to generation through reproduction

Allele

Different forms of a single gene (ex. Genes for eyes can be for brown eyes or blue eyes)

Genotype

The inherited combinations of alleles

Phenotype

An organisms inherited appearance

Dominant

The trait observed when at least one dominant allele for a characteristic is inherited

Recessive

A trait that appears only when to recessive alleles for the same characteristic are inherited

Heterozygous

When one dominant allele and recessive allele are shown

Homozygous Dominant

A pure domains made up of two dominant alleles

Homozygous Recessive

Pure recessive Made up of 2 recessive alleles

Pedigree

A family history that traces the inheritance of a particular trait.
