Informed Consent
Researchers have to inform potential participants in advance about the nature of the research and any risks involved
Participants must understand that they can refuse to participate or withdraw at any time
Protection from Harm/Discomfort
Studies may involve harm or discomfort if it is included in the informed consent, researcher must try to minimize discomfort as much as possible.
Confidentiality
A confederate’s right to have their information and participation in the study kept secret
Researchers can never release the data about individual participants (without permission), and they cannot gossip or spread information about participants
Debriefing
Confederates may be lied to (deception) as long as theyre told the entire truth of the study at the end of the study
The debriefing is when they are told the truth
Withdraw
Confederates cannot be forced to partake in or stay in a study at any time
If the experiment is a paid position, participants will often be offered only a fraction of the pay
Animal Ethical Standards
1) Aquire, care for, use and dispose of animals in compliance with laws and regulations
2) Ensure every using the animals have been given proper training
3) Make efforts to minimize discomfort of animals
4) Subjecting them to pain or stress is only okay if there is no other way
5) Surgical procedures must be under anesthesia and avoid infection and minimize pain
6) If an animals’ life will be terminated, you must move quickly so they suffer as little as possible.
