Resistance
A property of a material that slows down the flow of electric current and converts electrical energy into heat.
Rheostat
A variable resistor.
Closed Circuit
A circuit where the path is complete, allowing electric current to flow.
Open Circuit
A circuit that is broken or incomplete, so no current flows.
Factors Affecting Resistance
Length of the wire, thickness of the wire, and material of the wire.
Ohm’s Law
V = I × R, where V = voltage (volts), I = current (amperes), and R = resistance (ohms).
Difference Between Series and Parallel Circuits
Series circuit: One path for current; if one device fails, all stop. Parallel circuit: Multiple paths; if one device fails, others still work.
Materials for Electromagnet
Iron nail (core), coil of wire, and power source (battery).
