Declaration of Independence
Declared independence from Great Britain; stated "All men are created equal, unalienable rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness."
Articles of Confederation
Each state maintains its own sovereignty, freedom, and independence; had flaws such as no power to raise revenue and more power in the states, only one branch of gov. with equal representation
U.S. Constitution
Has three branches, checks and balances, legislative branch with commerce clause and necessary & proper clause, executive branch with informal powers and electoral college, judicial branch with no expressed powers (only through Marbury v. Madison).
Federalist 10
James Madison, Dangers of factions, strong central government, power of factions diluted by large population, competition, and compromise, advocates for a republican form of gov.
