why do maps exist?
They make it easier for users to relate data to location and identify geographic trends in the data, in a way which would be difficult using a chart or a table.

longitude is a measurement of location east or west
what is latitude
Latitude is a measurement of a location north or south of the Equator.

do not include a scale bar, simple drawing
reference maps
display natural and human-made objects from the geographical environment with an emphasis on location (e.g. topographic map, road map)
thematic maps
Are used to display the geographical or spatial distribution of one phenomenon (e.g. GDP, crime rates) dont need scale, no compass rose
advantages dot maps
easy to read, shows internal differences so there is less chance of generalization
disadvantages dot maps
-Can get messy when there is a lot of data
-Exact coordinates of a dot need to be known to create the map
