something that competent observers can observe and agree to be true
what is a scientific theory
a synthesis of facts and well-tested hypotheses
-the foundation of science, but not fixed
-grow stronger with more information

tested endlessly but has never been proven to be false
-also known as a scientific principle

it is limited to only the observable natural world
-cannot prove supernatural events (above nature)
