Larger social structures

Focuses on social structures and originations and the relationships between them

Micrsociology

Focuses on interactions between individuals

Face to face individual interactions

Interpersonal, beliefs, attitudes

Sociological imagination

Ability to see how your life connects to larger social forces and to understand how history shapes those experiences

Power

Weber said “the ability to carry out ones will, despite opposition from others

Opposition

Unjust or cruel exercises of authority or power especially by imposition of burdens; condition of being weighed down act of pressing down, heaviness on the mind

Internalized racism

Lies within individuals

These are private beliefs and biases about race that we believe

Might be internalized privilege entitlement and stereotypes

Interpersonal racism

Occurs between individuals

Bias, bigotry, and discrimination based on race

Institutional racism

Occurs within institutions

It involves unjust policies, practices, procedures, and outcomes that work better for White People than People of color

Structural racism

Racial inequities across institutions, policies, social structures, history, and culture

privilege

Are unearned benefits that someone has just by being a member of a certain group

Something given to you that is not earned

Having or not having is not a success or failure
