Androecium
The male reproductive structure of a flower, consisting of stamens; each stamen has a filament and an anther.
Gynoecium
The female reproductive structure of a flower, consisting of one or more pistils, which can be either monocarpellary or multicarpellary.
Microsporangium
A structure within the anther where microspores are produced; consists of four layers - epidermis, endothecium, middle layers, and tapetum.
Dehiscence
The process by which the anther splits open to release pollen grains.
Sporogenesis
The process by which microspore mother cells (PMC) undergo meiosis to form microspore tetrads.
Sporopollenin
A tough outer layer of pollen grains, known for its resistance to high temperatures, acids, and alkalis.
Autogamy
Self-pollination occurring within the same flower of the same plant, requiring synchrony in pollen and stigma development.
Xenogamy
Pollination that occurs between different plants, leading to increased genetic diversity.
Endosperm
A triploid tissue that develops from the primary endosperm nucleus, providing nutrition to the developing embryo.
Parthenocarpic fruits
Fruits that develop without fertilization, resulting in seedless fruits such as bananas.
