Occupations
Why does correlation not prove causation
Could be a coincidence and there may be other contributing factors
Why do large organisms need a mass transport system
low surface area to volume ratio
Larger organisms have a higher metabolic rate
What is a double circulatory system
A circlutory system where blood passes through the heart twice
Why do humans need a double circulatory system
Allows separation on oxygenated and deoxygenated blood
Helps maintain high blood pressure
What is heamoglobin
A protein with a quaternary strucutre
Combined with oxygen= oxyhemoglobin
Where in the body will you find high partial pressure of oxygen
Lungs
What is oxygen affinity
When the partial pressure of oxygen is high, oxygen loads readily with the haem group. Now the haemoglonin has high affinity
How does water move from the soil to the leaves of a plant
The water moves through the plant by transpiration. The water is absorbed through the root hair cells by osmosis as there is a higher water potential in the soil to the area of low water potential in the root hair cells across a semi-permeable membrane. The root hair cell is adapted for fast osmosis by having projections to increase surface area. Thr water is pulled up the xylem in the transpiration stream.
What is carbon dioxide used for in plants
Photosynthesis
What is oxygen used for in plants
Respiration
What is water used for in plants
Photosynthesis
Why is glucose needed in plants
Energy for respiration
Why are mineral ions used in plants
Growth
What is the phloem
Living tissue that transports organic substances in plants
What is translocation
Movement if organic solutes . Eg. Sucrose to a sink through the phloem
What is mass flow theory
