what is drag caused by?

  • turbulent flow

2
New cards

what is drag?

  • a resistive force that opposes the motion of an object or body through a fluid like water or air

3
New cards

how do you avoid drag as a swimmer and cyclist?

  • swimmer - technical racing suits increase speed by compressing your body into a more streamline shape (lzr)

  • cyclist - a fairing - which is a full or partial covering for a bike reducing aerodynamic drag (disks on the wheels)

  • could also have a equally sloped helmet with non straight back to allow air to flow off and stop the creation of a vortex and therefore turbulent flow

4
New cards

what is fluid friction?

  • friction that stops you from optimum performance

5
New cards

what is laminar flow?

  • a type of fluid flow where fluid particles move in smooth, parallel paths
