Scientific Method
A systematic approach to problem-solving that involves identifying a problem, formulating a hypothesis, designing a study, testing the hypothesis, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating results.
Operational Definitions
Specific explanations of abstract concepts that allow for measurement and experimentation.
Descriptive Statistics
Statistical methods used to summarize and organize data, including measures of central tendency and variability.
Correlation Coefficient
A numerical measure of the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables.
Reliability
The consistency of a measure, indicating that the same results would be obtained under consistent conditions.
Validity
The degree to which a tool measures what it claims to measure, including internal and external validity.
Independent Variable
The variable that is manipulated in an experiment to assess its effect on the dependent variable.
Dependent Variable
The variable that is measured in an experiment, affected by the independent variable.
Surveys
Research methods that collect data through questionnaires or interviews to gather information on attitudes, behaviors, or characteristics.
Research Ethics
Guidelines and principles that govern the conduct of research to ensure the welfare and protection of participants.
Case Studies
In-depth investigations of a single individual or group, often used to explore unique or novel phenomena.
Placebo Effect
A phenomenon in which a participant experiences a change due to their expectations, rather than from an actual treatment.
