females: > 12.5 and 38%
males: > 13 and 39%
(self: 11 and 33% w/ doctors approval)

What are the donation intervals for whole blood and apheresis units?

whole blood: 8 weeks
apheresis: 16 weeks

What condition can lead to a deferral period of 2-3 days?

NSAIDs, aspirin, interval btwn autologous donations

2 week/14 day deferral period

live attenuated or bacterial vaccines (measles, mumps, polio, yellow fever)
taken plavix or taclid after last dose

4 week deferral period

Rubella vaccine (German measles)

6 week deferral period

after birth (pregnancy)

12 month deferral period (hella)

syphilis, gono, transplant, bite, HBIG, tattoo, blood exposure/needlestick, sex w/ HIV + person, malaria, leishmania, piercing, transfusion during pregnancy, juvy, sex w/ hemophiliac, sex w/ 2 males

14-21 day deferral period

after smallpox vaccine (when scab falls off)

What types of apheresis are there?

RBC, stem cell, plts, plasma, granulocytes

What storage temps are used for whole blood, RBCs, plasma, plts, and granulocytes?

whole blood: 1-6
RBCs: 1-6, frozen < -65 of -120
Plasma: < - 18 frozen, 1-6 thawed
Plts and granulocytes: 20 -24

What units need special labels?

directed donor and autologous donor (can't be used on someone else)

What preservatives are used for adults and what is their storage time?

AS-1, 3, 5 (42 days)

What preservatives are used for kids and what is their storage time?
