Mary McLeod Bethune

Founded what is now Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona.Appointed by FDR to the National Youth Administration in 1936 and became the Director of Negro Affairs. Was at the founding conference of the UN.

Zora Neale Hurston

African American writer and folklore scholar who played a key role in the Harlem Renaissance. Lived in Florida as a child. Worked for the Florida division of the Federal Writers' Project (FWP) part of the Works Progress Administration during the New Deal. Toured around Florida and wrote about turpentine camps.
