demonstrate relationship
Problem-Solution (Argument)
Used in persuasive speeches
Topical (Categorical)
relative importance/complexity/timeliness
Narrative (story structure)
beginning, middle, end
Main points
are parallel (similar to grammatical form)
Coordinate points
given the same weight/importance as main points
Subordinate points
given less weight and function (used to support coordinate points)
Intros
no more than 10-15% of the speech
The Intro Includes
hook, topic, relevance, credibility, thesis, and preview
Conclusion includes
summarizing main points and providing closure
The Callback/Circular Closure
when the hook is referenced again in the conclusion
