First Amendment

You have the rights to

• Free speech

• Petition

• Press

• Religion

• Assembly

Second Amendment

• Americans have the rights to own weapons

• The militia cannot be infringed

Third Amendment

The government cannot force you to give living space and food to a soldier unless time of war (if it is time of war they have to make a law to allow this first)

Fourth Amendment

• Prohibits unreasonable searches by police

• Police cannot search you or seize your property without getting a warrant based on probable cause

Fifth Amendment

• Criminal procedure

• If you are accused of a crime and arrested, you must be indicted (officially charged)

• Double jeopardy

• Forced to testify against yourself

• Punished without a proper legal procedure

• Eminent Domain (they have to pay you for property they take)

Sixth Amendment

If you are accused of a crime by the government

• You have the right to a

  • Fair trial

  • Impartial jury

• You have the right to

  • Face your accusers

  • A lawyer at your trial

Seventh Amendment

• Civil cases only

  • You have the right to a jury trial instead of a judge

Eighth Amendment

• Government cannot set unreasonable bail or fines

• No cruel or unusual punishments

Ninth Amendment

Just because these are the rights stated in the Constitution, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have other rights

Tenth Amendment

Any of the power that isn’t given to the government from Constitution belongs to the states
