Jurisdiction
The authority of a court to hear a case and make legal decisions.
Subject Matter Jurisdiction
The jurisdiction of a court over the types of cases it can hear based on the nature of the dispute.
Territorial Jurisdiction
The jurisdiction of a court over the individuals involved in the case based on their location.
Original Jurisdiction
The authority of a court to hear a case for the first time, as opposed to on appeal.
Appellate Jurisdiction
The authority of a court to review and change the decision of a lower court.
Inherent Jurisdiction
The power of a court to administer its own process, as recognized by law.
Limitation Period

Disclosure
The legal process of revealing documents and information relevant to a case.
Interlocutory Applications
Requests made to the court for orders or directions during the course of litigation.
Default Judgment
A judgment rendered when a party fails to respond or defend their case within the stipulated time frame.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
A process to resolve disputes outside of traditional litigation, often involving mediation or arbitration.
Trial
A formal examination of evidence and legal arguments in a court to determine a verdict.
Costs Consequences
The implications or penalties regarding legal costs incurred by parties in a court case.
Federal Court
A court established by the federal government with jurisdiction over specific types of cases as defined by law.
Joinder of Parties
The inclusion of multiple parties in a single legal action, either as plaintiffs or defendants.
