Neuroblastoma

• malignant tumor in kids

• from cells that keep a neuroblast-like structure

• usually PNS, sometimes brain

Neurotoxin

• substance that is poisonous/destructive to nervous tissue

• botulinum & tetanus toxins

Rabies

• viral infection of NS

• transmitted via bite of infected mammals → PNS to CNS → brain inflammation, delirium, death

• vaccine & antibody treatment effective if applied before symptoms appear

Shingles

• herpes zoster; varicella-zoster virus

• inflammation of the infected sensory neurons in the skin

• enters thru cracks in the skin → sensory neuron cell bodies → remains dormant until immune system is weak → multiplies

• neuralgia, scaly blisters, alternating between healing and replase
