ELECTRODYNAMICS
The science of electricity charge in motion
ELECTRIC CURRENT
A flow of electric charge.
Closed Circuit
For an electric current
to exist, a (?) is necessary.
DIRECT CURRENT
If the energy source propels electrons in only one direction. (ex. Battery, Xray tube)
ALTERNATING CURRENT
If the energy source is in two or more direction. (ex. MRI)
PHASE
All electrons are moving in the same direction with the same velocity.
OHM’S LAW
The voltage across the total circuit or any portion of the circuit is equal to the current times
the resistance.
Impedance
Electrons bump into other electrons of the conductor. (resistive)
Capacitive, Inductive, Resistive
3 TYPES OF ELECTRIC IMPEDANCES
Resistive
changes the electric energy into heat
INSULATORS
stop flow of electrons/ resist
Quartz, Rubber, Glass
types of insulators
CONDUCTORS
Allows flow of electrons but w/ resistance
Copper, Aluminum, Seawater
Types of conductors
SEMICONDUCTORS
Acts as Insulator/Conductor
Silicon, Selenium, Germanium
types of semiconductors
SUPERCONDUCTORS
The electric resistance of a material is zero, must be in cryogenic environment
Titanium,niobium
type of superconductor
ELECTRIC POWER
Ability to do work by Using Energy
Scattering, and Absorption
Types of Attenuation
