Self-efficacy
An individual’s confidence in their ability to accomplish a task.
Self-regulation
An individual’s ability to monitor, evaluate, and change a behavior.
Enjoyment
An internal state of pleasure, usually the result of a behavior.
Motivation
An internal state that facilitates or inhibits behaviors.
Self-Efficacy Theory
A theory that includes performance accomplishments, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, and physiological/affective states that influence efficacy expectations.
Intrinsic motivation
Behavior performed for the inherent satisfaction and enjoyment it provides.
Extrinsic motivation
Behavior performed for the external reward that it provides, such as awards and accolades.
High self-regulatory skills
Characteristics of individuals who are typically more physically active.
Types of activity that increase enjoyment
Rhythmic and repetitive activities tend to increase enjoyment.
Motivation continuum
A spectrum that describes the stages in-between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
Factors that influence enjoyment
Optimal duration, intensity, frequency, and lack of competition can increase enjoyment.
