Prefix
A word part added to the beginning of a medical term to modify its meaning.
Suffix
A word part added to the end of a medical term to modify its meaning.
Combining Form
A root word combined with a vowel, used to connect with other word parts.
Cardiology
The study of the heart and its functions.
Anatomy
The study of the physical structure of the body.
Physiology
The study of the functions of the body's structures.
Fowler's Position
A position where the head is elevated to assist in breathing or comfort.
Hypotension
Lower than normal blood pressure.
Hypertension
Higher than normal blood pressure.
Cardiac Output
The volume of blood the heart pumps per minute.
Oxygenation
The process of adding oxygen to blood.
Apnea
A condition where breathing stops temporarily.
Hypovolemic
A state of having a lower than normal volume of blood.
Shock
A critical condition resulting from inadequate blood flow to the body's tissues.
Integumentary System
The system that includes the skin, which protects the body from external damage.
Endocrine System
The system of glands that produce hormones regulating various body functions.
Neurological System
The system that controls and communicates sensory and motor functions throughout the body.
Musculoskeletal System
The system made up of bones and muscles that supports the body and allows movement.
Respiratory System
The system responsible for the exchange of gases between the body and the environment.
