What is the best anatomical example of an acoustic resonator?
The vocal tract.
?Air inside an object is forced into vibration; properties of the resonator determine which frequencies are amplified and attenuated.
Acoustic resonance
What is the role of Resonant Frequencies (Formants)?
They do NOT change the frequencies produced by the source, but they DO change the quality of sound produced.
Where do formants come from?
From the filter.
Where do harmonics come from?
From the source.
?An object is forced into vibration by an outside force
mechanical resonance
something that is forced into vibration by another vibrator and modifies sound
resonator .
What describes the vocal tract in terms of resonance?
Air-filled tubes closed at one end and open on the other, vibrating at different frequencies depending on shape and length.
Why particular frequencies amplified in vocal tract resonance?
They produce standing waves with nodes and antinodes.
Why is the vocal tract called
The wavelength of the lowest resonant frequency is 4x the length of the tube.
