Limbic System
doughnut-shaped system of neural structures at border of brainstem and cerebral hemispheres, associated with emotions like fear and aggression and drives e.g. food and sex.
Includes hippocampus, amygdala, and hypothalamus
Amygdala
FEAR: 2 almond-shaped neural clusters that are components of the limbic system and linked to emotion. key to fear and aggresssion
Hypothalamus
DRIVE: neural structure lying below (hypo) the thalamus, directs several maintenance activities like eating, drinking, and body temp, helps govern endocrine system via pituitary gland. linked to emotion.
Hippocampus
MEMORY: neural center located in limbic center, helps process explicit memories for storage, processes conscious (explicit memories), damage results in loss in ability to form new memories. right by amygdala.
