Claim of What Happened
Goliath’s sight was seriously impaired, which would have made him a pushover for David. If Griffin correct, the fight was fixed and unfair in David’s favor.
Visual system produced a corresponding, specific visual loss
If optic nerve from the right eye were severely damaged, there would be no vision from that eye. Geometry of visual system makes for some more complex relationships.
Visual Field Measurements
Can identify the locus of damage
Ex of Measurements for Visual Field
Tumors of the pituitary gland can press on nerve fibers in optic chains so that a patient becomes blind in half the viusal field
Bi-Temporal Hemjanopia
Blindness affects the visual field toward the temple in each eye
How could Goliath have a tumor?
Griffin & Berginer speculated that Goliath big stature was symptomatic of gigantism, an endocrine disorder. Gigantism is associated with a tumor of pituitary gland. Goliath has pituitary tumor, probable resulting from hypersecretion of growth hormone starting in his childhood
What can a fully developed liturgy tumor do optic chaism
Can press on optic chiasm. Where 50% of retinal ganglion cell axons from each eye cross over to other side of body on their way to the brain
