Saddam was captured, put on trial, and executed by the new Iraqi government. violence and civil war enveloped Iraq, Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds began to fight. Later a new Islamic extremist group called ISIS emerged and replaced Al-Qaeda as a main terrorist network.
