What is the Ecological Systems Theory?
This theory looks at how groups ion people influence each other
Who is apart of the microsystems?
Each individual is their own system
What does the microsystem do?
They develop their behaviour and make choices to fit their own needs
Who is apart of the mesoystem?
Small groups like families and friends
What does the mesosystem do?
They socialize the person into fitting in with sociteial expectations
Who is apart of the exosystem?
Extended family, school and job
What does the exosystem do?
They set expectations and influence the resources available
Who is apart of the macrosystem?
Laws, government
What does the macrosystem do?
They define the policies that can limit your behaviour
What is free mate selection?
individuals are attracted to eachother, they fall in love, then get married
what is not clear about free choice mate selection?
not clear if romantic love is created by society or its biological
What is the ideal mate theory?
it says that people create their fantasy person without knowing in the head based on childhood experiences
How does ideal mate theory affect mate selection?
It influences who they chose to date without even realizing it and everyone compares their possible person to the ideal person in their head to see how they rate.
What is natural selection?
People choose a mate to ensure their children are born and live into adulthood
Who do women choose based on natural selection?
Women choose men who are financially stable and good providers
Who do men choose based on natural selection?
Men choose women who appear fertile; with wide hips (childbirth)
What is social homogamy? (harmony)
People are attracted to people in the same background as them. They find people that look like them attractive.
What are some categories of social homogamy?
Race, ethnicity, political beliefs, religion
