Glucose → Pyruvate → kreb’s cycle
If decreased O2 then:
Glucose → pyruvate → Lactate
Testing for Lactate
Lactate → Lactate oxidase → pyruvate + H2O2
H2O2 + reduced dye → peroxidase → oxidized dye
Normal Lactate value
0.5-1.5 mmol/L
Type A Lactic Acidosis
Decreased O2
MI, heart failure, shock, pulmonary edema
Type B Lactic Acidosis
Decreased proper metabolism → Increased lactate
