Supernatant
The liquid that remains above the solid sediment after a mixture has settled, commonly seen in sedimentation processes.
Decantate
The liquid that is poured off from a mixture after sedimentation, separating it from the sediment.
Filtrate
The liquid that passes through the filter during the filtration process, leaving behind the solid residue.
Residue
The solid material that remains on the filter after filtration.
Distillate
The purified liquid collected after distillation, which has been separated from the original mixture based on differences in boiling points.
Crystals
Solid particles that form from a solution during crystallization, often as the solvent evaporates.
Concentrate
The remaining solution that has a higher concentration of dissolved solids after some of the solvent has been removed.
Sublimate
The solid that is collected after sublimation, where a substance transitions from solid to gas and then back to solid without passing through a liquid phase.
Centrifugate
The liquid that is separated from the solid after centrifugation, where centrifugal force is used to separate components based on density.
Chroma
In chromatography, the separated components are often referred to as 'bands' or 'spots,' depending on the method used.
