define diffusion
when particles go from a high concentration to a low concentration
how would you experiment diffusion using potassium manganate
get potassium manganate (VII), it is purple crystals.
Get beaker of water
Put the potassium manganate (VII) in the beaker filled with water
particles of potassium manganate (VII) diffuses out into the water.
define dilution
reducing the concentration of a solution b adding more water while keeping the solute the same.
how would you test for diffusion (using ammonia and HCL)
get a wool that is soaked in aqueous ammonia
get a wool that is soaked in HCL
(HCL gives off hydrogen chloride gas)
get a tube and put both wool at an end each side, close the holes using a bung.
They both diffuse, they will meet and form a ring.
how would you test for diffusion using bromide
fill a half of the gas jar full of bromine gas and the other half of air, separate it using a glass plate.
When you remove the glass plate, the bromine (brown colour) will diffuse through the air.
