Sternocleidomastoid
Location: Neck; runs from the mastoid process to the clavicle/sternum
Insertion: mastoid process
Function: one contracting alone laterally flexes head and neck to same side and rotates head and neck to opposite side. Both contracting together flexes neck, assists in elevation of ribs. Flex, laterally flex, rotate neck.

Function: accessory muscle in respiration, antagonizes action of diaphragm, assists with ipsilateral rotation and side bending
