Diagnostic Ultrasound
A medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of organs and structures inside the body.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Uses lower frequencies and is frequently used in chiropractic offices for treatment.
Transducer Probe
A device that sends and receives sound waves during an ultrasound examination.
Piezoelectric Effect
The generation of an electric charge in response to applied mechanical stress, used in ultrasound technology.
Echogenicity
The ability of tissues to reflect ultrasound waves, categorized as hyperechoic (whiter areas) or hypoechoic (darker areas).
Doppler Effect
Change in frequency or wavelength of sound waves caused by the motion of a source, used in ultrasound to measure blood flow.
Acoustic Shadowing
Loss of image beyond areas of high echogenicity, where sound waves do not penetrate.
Acoustic Enhancement
Increase in echogenicity beyond fluid-filled areas, appearing whiter on the ultrasound image.
MSK Ultrasound
Musculoskeletal ultrasound used for the evaluation of soft tissues, joint diseases, and injuries without radiation.
Artifacts
Distortions in ultrasound images due to improper technique or limitations of the equipment.
