Mole
The amount of a substance whose mass in grams is numerically equal to its molecular or formula weight.
Avogadro's number (NA)
6.022 x 10^23; the number of formula units in one mole of any substance.
Molecular Weight (MW)
The average mass (in amu) of one molecule of a substance.
Molar Mass
The mass (in g/mol) of one mole of a substance.
Gram-to-Mole Conversions
Conversions that use molar mass as a conversion factor between number of moles and mass.
Formula weight
The average mass of one formula unit of an ion, equivalent to molecular weight for ionic compounds.
Atomic weight/atomic mass
The average mass of an element’s atoms.
