Newtons 1st law
A body will remain at rest or at a constant velocity unless a resultant force acts on it
Newtons 2nd law
The acceleration of a body is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on it & the direction of the acceleration is in the direction of the resultant force
Friction definition
The force that opposes motion when 2 objects rub together
3 disadvantages of friction
Machines overheat, slows us down, wearing away parts
3 advantages of friction
Brakes, walking, when driving
What effect do different surfaces have on friction
Large on rough surfaces like concrete & small on smooth surfaces like ice
3 ways friction can be reduced
Surfaces can be polished & smoothed, surfaces can be lubricated with Greece or oil, surfaces can be separated by a layer of oil
Mass definition
The amount of matter in an object measured in kg
Weight definition
The gravitational force by which an object is attracted to a planet
What does Hookes Law state
The extension is proportional to the applied force, provided that the limit of proportionality is not exceeded
Hooks law equation
F = ke
