Psychological Disorders
Significant disturbances in thinking, emotional regulation, or behavior, also referred to as mental illness.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
A persistent feeling of anxiety or dread that interferes with daily life.
Panic Disorder
Characterized by frequent and unexpected panic attacks, which are sudden periods of intense fear, discomfort, or sense of losing control.
Social Anxiety Disorder
An intense, persistent fear of being watched and judged by others, or intense fear of social or performance situations.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Involves uncontrollable, recurring thoughts and performing of senseless rituals.
PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder)
May occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, characterized by reliving traumatic events through dreams, flashbacks, and hallucinations.
Depressive Disorders
Characterized by symptoms such as loss of pleasure or interest, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, hopelessness, and trouble concentrating.
Bipolar Disorders
Characterized by mood swings that include emotional highs and lows, which can be continuous or cyclical, often with racing thoughts and impulsive behaviors.
Personality Disorders
Characterized by inflexible patterns of thought and beliefs that lead to socially distressing behavior.
Schizophrenia
Affects about 1 percent of the U.S. population, characterized by alterations of the senses, inability to sort incoming stimuli, altered sense of self, and radical changes in emotions, movements, and behaviors.
