Cornea

Window allowing light to enter eye; bends light

Iris

Visible colored part of the eye; contains muscle fibers that adjust pupil size

Lacrimal Glands

Produce tears that provide lubrication and antimicrobial defense

Optic Disc

Location where the optic nerve exits the eye; no photo receptors

Optic Nerve

Transmits visual signals from eye to thalamus in brain

Eyelashes

Protect the eye from external debris; blinking reflex

Eyelids

Physically protect eye

Pupil

Allows light to enter the eye; size (controlled by the iris) controls the amount of light that enters

Sclera

“White of the eye”; protects and shapes the eyeball, and provides sites for muscle attachment
