Physical Development
Refers to the physical and biological changes that occur in humans between birth and adolescence. It is divided into two areas: Growth and Development.
Growth
Physical changes such as increase in height, weight, and size.
Development
• How children gain control over their physical actions.
• Doing complicated and difficult activities more skillfully and easily.
Physical Self
P_______ S_______ is the concrete dimension and tangible aspect of the person that can be directly observed. 🧍
Puberty
Physical changes leading to Sexual maturity.
Adolescence
Refers to the transition period in psychological and social changes of a girl or boy.
Primary Sex Characteristics
Changes of sexual organs which are directly concerned in reproduction. It is called “Spermache” for boys and “Menarche” (First menstrual cycle) for girls.
Secondary Sex Characteristics
Visible changes in features during puberty which are not directly part of the reproductive system.
Physical Attractiveness
The DEGREE to which a person's physical image is considered aesthetically pleasing or beautiful.
• Often implies sexual attractiveness or desirability but not all the time.
Body Image
The perception that a person has of their physical self and the feelings that result from that perception.
4 Aspects of Body Image
Perceptual Body Image = How you see yourself.
Affective Body Image = How you feel about yourself
Cognitive Body Image = How you think about yourself
Behavioral Body Image = How you behave based on the above mentioned
