Valuable furs were obtained from the indigenous, then sold in Europe. Furs were pretty much extinct in Europe.

Describe the relationship between the Dutch/French and the indigenous

Dutch/French paid the natives to hunt beavers for them. Their relationship was friendlier than with the Spanish. The trade was on the terms of the natives.

It was controlled by the Dutch West India Company, and by trade in general. It became New York.
