Cause/etiology

Types of relaxation
cystocele, urethrocele
rectocele
enterocele (small intestines)
uterine prolapse or procidentia
Cystocele
herniation of the bladder into the anterior wall of the vaginal canal
S/S: pelvic/vaginal pressure, UTI, fullness, painful intercourse (dyspareunia), dysuria
Urethrocele
prolapse of the urethra into the anterior vaginal wall
S/S: pelvic/vaginal pressure, UTI, fullness, painful intercourse (dyspareunia), dysuria, stress incontinence
Rectocele
herniation of lower rectum through the posterior wall of the vaginal wall
S/S: vaginal pressure/discomfort, protrusion coming from the posterior wall, constipation, difficulty evacuating rectum, dyspareunia
Enterocele
prolapse of the small intesting through the posterior aspect of the vagina cul de sac of douglas
Procidentia
prolapse of the uterus into the vaginal canal
S/S: pelvic pressure, painless, dyspareunia
three degrees:
first: ½ way into the vaginal canal
second: cervix is out of the vaginal canal
third: complete prolapse, uterus is outside of the body
treatments: pressaries
