Scatter Graphs

Line graphs with no lines that show the correlation between two sets of data.

2
New cards

Line of Best Fit

A straight line that’s only goal is to cross as many points on the scatter graph as possible, while ignoring outliers. This means it doesn’t have to start at 0.

They can then be used just like line graphs for estimation.

3
New cards

Positive correlation

As one value increases, so does the other

4
New cards

Negative correlation

As one value increases, the other decreases

5
New cards

No correlation

No pattern between the 2 sets of data

6
New cards

Why it would not be sensible to estimate x response

x is not on the graph, so the trend may change.

7
New cards

Interpolation

Estimating within the given range

8
New cards

Extrapolation

Estimating outside the given range

9
New cards

Strong correlation

Where points are close to the line of best fit

10
New cards

Weak correlation

Where points are further away to the line of best fit

11
New cards

Correlation clause

Correlation does not always mean a link between both sets of data.
