Phases of Meiosis?
Prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I, Telophase I, Prophase II, Metaphase II, Anaphase II, Telophase II (cytokinesis).

Result of Meiosis?
4 unique haploid gametes.

Meiosis vs Mitosis (key differences)?
MEIOSIS: happens for sexual reproduction and makes 4 unique haploid daughter cells.
MITOSIS happens for growth, healing, when a cell gets too big and makes 2 identical diploid daughter cells.

Causes of Genetic Variation (independent assortment, segregation, crossover, fertilization)
• Independent Assortment: chromosomes are randomly sorted into gametes during meiosis
• Segregation: homologous chromosomes separate during meiosis
• Crossover: homologous chromosomes exchange pieces of DNA during prophase I of meiosis
• Fertilization: a sperm fuses with an egg during sexual reproduction
