What are the assumptions for a uniform linear motion model?
particle, 1D motion, constant velocity, neglect air resistance & friction
What is Uniform Linear Motion?
Uniform = constant
Linear = one-dimensional or along a straight line
motion = position is changing
What is distance traveled?
The length of the path (trajectory) taken when an object moves from one position to another
What is the symbol and SI unit of distance traveled?
Distance traveled and meter
What is average speed?
The distance traveled divided by the elapsed time
What is the symbol and SI unit of average speed?
Average speed and meter per second
What is displacement?
The difference between the final position and the initial position
Delta x= xf - xi
What is the symbol and SI unit for displacement?
Delta x and meter
What is the average velocity?
The displacement divided by the elapsed time
What is the symbol and SI units for average velocity?
V (upper bar) x and meter per second
Motion in the positive position:
Average speed → positive value
Average velocity → positive value
Motion in the negative direction:
Average speed → positive value
Average velocity → negative value
Round trip:
Average speed → positive value
Average velocity → zero
What is instantaneous velocity?
The velocity at an instant time
What is the symbol and SI unit for instantaneous velocity?
vx and meter per second
What is instantaneous speed?
The speed at an instant time
v = I vx I
What is the symbol and SI unit for instantaneous speed?
v and meter per second
What does your cars speedometer measure?
Instantaneous speed
What does the motion diagram for the uniform linear motion model include?
World line, coordinate system, system, vector, physical quantities
