Elizabeth would be assassinated, Mary Queen of Scots would replace her on the throne, 6000 soldiers would land at Harwich in Essex, led by the Duke of Alba, and 40000 english Catholics would rise up against Elizabeth in rebellion. The Duke of Norfolk would also then marry Mary

What was the significance of the 40,000 men?

Ridolfi estimated that half of the English nobles were catholic and that they would be able to raise an army of 40,000 - however, he didn’t seem to consider that Elizabeth was a popular leader and that not many rebels would be gathered

How much of the plot was carried out?

None - Francis Walsingham (spyleader) found the plot and arrested Norfolk, and he was put on trial, found guilty and executed. Mary Queen of Scots was spared and Ridolfi escaped punishment as he was out of the country at the time
