Freezer temperature
-58°F to +5°F
(-50°C to -15°C)
🧊 Used for vaccines, some biologics, and certain antibiotics.
Refrigerated temperature
36°F to 46°F
(2°C to 8°C)
🥶 For insulin (before opening), reconstituted antibiotics, and some eye/ear drops.
Cold temperature
Any temp not exceeding 46°F (8°C) — includes refrigerator & freezer ranges.
Cool temperature
46°F to 59°F
(8°C to 15°C)
❄ Example: certain suppositories or vaccines that can’t freeze but need cool temps.
Controlled room temperature
68°F to 77°F
(20°C to 25°C)
🏠 Most meds stored here — capsules, tablets, etc. Short excursions allowed 59–86°F.
Warm temperature
86°F to 104°F
(30°C to 40°C)
🔥 Above this, most drugs can degrade or lose potency.
Excessive heat
Anything above 104°F (40°C) — never store meds here (like in cars or direct sunlight).
Room temperature excursions
Brief temperature changes (like during shipping) allowed between 59–86°F (15–30°C)
Insulin storage tip
Unopened insulin → Refrigerate (36–46°F)
Opened insulin → Room temp up to 28 days (68–77°F)
