Creative Process
The series of stages involved in solving problems through creativity, involving problem definition, discovery, and determination.
Problems
Challenges that require novel solutions, often characterized as ill-defined, complex, dynamic, and involving multiple information sources (Runco, 2004).
Stages of Creative Problem Solving
The process that includes fact finding, problem finding, idea finding, solution finding, and acceptance finding (Parnes, 1967; cited in Amabile, 1996).
The Ingenuity Process
A structured approach to creative problem solving that includes defining, discovering, and determining aspects of a problem.
Divergent Thinking
A cognitive process that involves generating multiple solutions and seeing the known in new ways (Guilford, 1967).
Convergent Thinking
A cognitive process focused on finding the single best solution and eliminating ambiguity through logic and accuracy (Guilford, 1967).
Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TCTT)
An established measure that tests individual creativity through figural and verbal forms.
Components of Creativity
Factors influencing creativity including expertise, motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic), and creative thinking skills (Amabile, 1982; Amabile, 1998).
Creative Products vs Creative People
Distinction between tangible outputs of creativity (e.g., art, theories) and individuals who exhibit creative traits.
